Political Correctness is Our Future. Say It In Chorus.

What is PC?

Less of everything I am politically informed. I am ignorant, I am very uneducated in political issues. I am very incorrect politically. In Soviet Union there was a special term, “politcorrectness”, meaning “political correctness”, abbreviated as PC (don't confuse with another PC). According to Wikipedia it means “language, ideas, policies, and behavior seen as seeking to minimize social and institutional offense in occupational, gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, handicap, and age-related contexts”. Uf-f-f-f-f! Cold. Too politically correct, isn’t it?

Philip Atkinson states that “Political Correctness (PC) is the communal tyranny that erupted in the 1980s. It was a spontaneous declaration that particular ideas, expressions and behavior, which were then legal, should be forbidden by law, and people who transgressed should be punished”. Yeah, warmer….

My friend states: “Political correctness is when you substitute the word “pet” to “animal companion”, because the word “pet” may lower self esteem of the latter. Hot!

Some time ago Obama was asked who was the main thing: Putin or Medvedev? He replied: “effective together”. What a nice substitution for a word “scary”.

Reverse example: When Ronald Reagan called Soviet Union “Evil Empire” he was NOT politically correct.

I was always not, not and not

Not politically informed, not politically educated, not politically correct. First two “not” actually saved me. When I was in my mid 20-s I was approached by a well groomed guy, dressed in civil clothes (he came to my door), who showed me a small red document (called “crusts”), a certificate of KGB officer.

I knew I should be politically correct, period. He asked me to go with him. Oh, was I scared. I heard too many stories like this, when people were taken from their homes and were never seen again. First he lectured me how important it was to be a good citizen, devoted to the wellbeing of our Motherland. Then he tried to recruit me to be a KGB informant, to supply them information about people in my surroundings who would interest them. And he gave me the exact name of a person. I did the cleverest thing I could do under the circumstances- I expressed my hot and full desire to do this (if I refused on the spot, I would be done). I assured him that he could not possibly find the better person for this. He gave me his special direct phone number.

And I started my “dumb” game. I was calling him several times a day, “informing” him about what we talked with the person of interest- about shopping; about gossiping; about cooking recipes; about…all kinds of useless crap... You got the idea…. In a week he thanked me for a good job and told that they don’t need my services any more.

What was funny, long after this episode I was still serving my "dumb" image, greeting this guy as a good friend when seeing him on the street (KGB office was not far from my house).

So, I am not, not and not (not politically informed, not politically educated, not politically correct).

All this gives me a full right to be just silly when it comes to politics. For instance, who is this guy on the picture? No, not these two. These are Putin and Medvedev, everyone knows them.

Who is the one on the picture below? Take a poll and we’ll see if you know him.

P.S. The correct answer will be at the end, below the comment capsule.

Who Is He?

This is....

Not only political corruptness, but mostly moral and social corruptness.

Thank you for visiting and commenting, Vladimir.

Vera,

Shalom! Political Corectness (the American version) is helping to destroy our country. Our people follow like lemmings, in the USSR you followed because of guns.

This the type of article Americans need to know about, but it can't happen with your head in the sand.

Vera,

Say it loud, say it proud. I HATE OBAMA, or B.O!

Harvey, hatred takes us nowhere. Hatred is our helplessness. Seeing the cause, the roots, who actually stands behind Obama is the tool to understanding the problem we face. Otherwise, hatred and euphoria are brothers (or sisters :))

Vera,

I am human, therefore I do hate. This man is trying to destroy America, I hate anyone that wishes to do that.

Harvey, I know....

But this man is not alone; those who stand behind him, who finance him and pull the cords are more dangerous...

Yes, Harvey....

but you know, "accidents will happen in the best regulated families", or as Russians say, "there's no family without a jerk".

Harvey Stelman's remarks can be understood as a subtle mockery... Don't like political correctness? So try political incorrectness.

I understood in this way :)

Anyway the article is funny and well-reasoned.

datych, thanks for reading and commenting.

I don't know about America, but if you tried political incorrectness in Soviet Union you were in deep.... well... trouble.

:) I guess you were...

I was too young then to understand the Soviet system.

Isn't it the same now?

I guess it isn't. If you are an usual person you can freely speak your opinion in Internet. However if your incorrectness is close to break a law or insult the authorities there is a chance you will be punished to demonstrate to others that people should obeyed the system. The best example is a Sava Terentyev case who expressed common negative opinion on Russian police in very emotional way.

However some politicians can guiltless say totally illegal and even fascist ideas because they are with Putin.

Public figures and famous people like journalists, opposition politicians, cultural figures live by different rules which sometimes are softer sometimes are stricter.

Putin-Medvedev politics is not democratic but local officials are much more terrible because they can act as real monsters even if you are completely politically correct.

Thank you, datych, for a great update. I have an impression that still you have to be very careful.... When I get letters from my Russian friends where they write about politics, it still looks like they write somebody else's slogans, the way they are supposed to do and are told to do, not the way they would do if they were absolutely free.

Define: "Political Correctness."

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional,

illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous

mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it

is entirely possible to pick up a piece of s__t by the clean end."

    PUTVEDEV

    Correct answer: PutVedev.

Thus is a photoshopped picture, upper half is taken from Putin (note his cold, icy eyes of a former KGB officer) and the lower part is from Medvedev's picture.

    Remember, Obama's words.....?
