Shape Up with Skechers Shape-Ups, Walking Shoes. How They Work and Do They Work? Skechers Shape Ups Review.

Shape Up with Shape Up Shoes
Every woman has her weak points. Mine are shoes, especially walking shoes, because I walk for fitness and comfortable walking shoes is a key for a nice "walk out". Only my income prevents me from having tons of shoes. Even so, I have twice more shoes than my mother and my son together. Another point is that I love Skechers shoes. They fit the exact foot size, so there’s no problem to order them on line. Unlike other shoes that you have to try and walk to see if they fit you, Skechers shoes are ready to wear, so to say. No rubbing points, no blisters.
I was not going to buy any more shoes for a while, as I have enough (really, enough) for several years to wear. But some time ago a commercial of Skechers Shape-Ups in my e-mail caught my eye. It said “Shape up while you walk”. And also “Get in shape without setting foot in a gym”. Also it said “Designed to:
*promote weight loss,
*tone muscles,
*improve posture”.
Would you get interested? I did. I followed the link. I watched, I looked, I read, I checked, I thought, I thought, I thought. And I knew that I wanted those shoes. They were not cheap, but when I checked other shoes of the same kind, like MBT walking shoes, the difference in price was striking. I tried to look for cheap MBT shoes, but I don't think cheap MBT shoes exist. So, I ordered Skechers Shape-Up walking shoes!
The only suspicious thing about Shape-Ups was that they look weird. The look was dorky-one, as my son said. My mother said that they look like orthopedic shoes.
Here they are.
My Shape-Ups
Apart from their look, how do they work?
The brochure says “Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Skechers Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to stimulate walking barefoot on a yielding surface such as sand”.
Though not a bingo, but very close. The feeling is somewhat like you walk on sand, when your heel sinks and you have to make an effort and roll your sole to move your body to a next step. The Skechers Shape-Ups give you smoother sensation under your sole than sand and also, you don’t have that toe-grasping feeling of a bare foot on the sand. Still, both sand and Shape-Ups involve more effort and a natural search for balance, so there is correlation for sure. Believe me, I know. I lived on a sea shore and every morning walked for 40 minutes along a beach line.
Basically the shoes put you slightly off balance and your muscles are constantly working to keep you balanced and centered. Staying balanced while walking in these walking shoes requires the use of muscles in the legs, abs and buttocks not used with standard walking shoes. It took me a couple of days to get used to it. My first day frustration turned into wonder when after twenty minutes of a moderate walk my muscles felt like after an hour of vigorous gym work out.
P.S. At the end of this review I will be adding some notes based on my continuous experience of walking in Shape Ups. Please, keep reading.
So, do they work?
The makers of Skechers Shape Ups say that Shape-Ups are designed to…..
*Promote weight loss- It’s yet to be proved and I don't think that walking shoes by themselves may cause a weight loss, but with the right eating habits it may happen for sure, as you burn more calories with this type of walking.
*Strengthen the back, Firm calf and buttock muscles, Reduce cellulite and tone your thighs- Well, I definitely could feel my muscles working, while walking in Shape-Ups, from my calves all the way up to my back. When you make an effort to keep your balance, it requires core strength, so naturally doing a lot of balancing on these shoes should strengthen your core. Balancing is also supposed to improve circulation in the legs and feet, reducing swelling.
Now that I am walking in Sklechers Shape-Ups walking shoes for two summers already, I may say for sure that yes, muscles on my calves, buttocks and thighs are more toned than before and they look better too.
*Increase cardiovascular health.- With all mentioned above it makes sense!
*Improve posture- Yes, I can testify to this. I use to stoop and have to constantly keep in mind to keep my shoulders straight. With Shape-Ups it comes naturally. My reflections in shop windows testify it. You naturally have to maintain good posture to stay balanced on unstable surfaces (and the bottoms of these shoes are not flat!).
*Reduce stress on knee and ankle joints- Smooth and rolling-like movements relieve pressure on joints and tendons. I used to have some knee discomfort, but my knees don’t bother me when I walk in Shape-Ups.
The Shape-Ups add does not say anything about foot itself and toes. This is an issue that should be addressed separately and I will be adding notes about it later.
Some tips-
It is recommended to start wearing the shoes for 20-25 minutes first day to get used to them, and then increase the time gradually.
Running in Shape Ups is not recommended. Also, concentrate while going downhill or up stairs. These shoes are definitely made for walking.
Skechers.com runs out of sizes really fast, so hurry up! Just kidding, don’t worry. Though sometimes you can’t find your size in a certain model of Shape-Ups, they have lots of models to offer and they do refill their stock.
Skechers.com is not only shoes. They also have cool clothing. My son loves their T-shirts, polo’s and hoodies and you may catch really nice deals there, just watch.
Other features
Shoes come with a detailed exercise guide and a CD to get the most out of your Shape-Ups! To my mind this an absolute waste, because this kind of material a customer can get on line, if he is going to follow some exercising routine. But in most cases a person will just take the shoes out of the box, put them on and off he goes. To my mind, it would be more reasonable to reduce the price of the shoes for the cost of this CD and a guide.
Though more expensive than standard walking shoes, ($110 at Sketchers.com) but less costly than comparable exercise footwear brands. Besides, this is the case when more expensive means more quality. I tried other like-made shoes of another company (never heard of), that my neighbor bought at Big Kmart for $34.99, and they were not giving half of Skechers Shape-Ups work out. Also didn’t look as cool as mine.

Personal note
Skechers.com didn’t ask me for this review, I didn’t get any discounts from them and at all, it was all my initiative, as I really loved my Shape-Ups.
What's more, since my review is accumulating lots of views on line, it was also noticed by a Sketchers sales admin who contacted me with an offer to test one of their shoes and write a review for them. Who would not agree? I gave my consent. They asked for my size, my address and some other details. Promised to mail a free pair of shoes to me and.....
...... and I never heard from them anymore. LOL. Not very representative to my mind!
Another personal note about feet and toes.
I decided to add this note here after using Shape-Ups (walking in them) every day for 30-50 minutes through two summers. I feel great, toned, motivated. But! I would strongly advise you to alternate walking in Shape-Ups with going for a long walk in other, regular, sport shoes from time to time.
After walking in Shape-Ups I noticed that some of my toes of both feet became stiff and somewhat painful. I analyzed the way the toes were receiving the pressure and felt that you put the most pressure on the front of toe’s cushion (directly under the nail front edge). Next time I went for a walk I used my regular (also Sketchers) walking sport shoes to give some rest to my toes. It solved the problem.
Now once or twice a week I walk in my regular Sketchers sport shoes! Rest of my walks I am doing in Sketchers Shape-Ups! It gives a nice alternation for different muscles to work.
However, the longer I am walking in Shape-Ups, the less comfortable they feel. This is my third summer of using Shape-Ups and this summer I am hardly using them. I prefer to walk in my regular walking shoes.
Does this mean that I am disappointed in Shape- Ups? By no means, no. I still consider that Shape-Ups are awesome shoes and I would advise anyone to buy a pair. I think that walking in Shape-Ups has all the advantages listed above.
However, I would say that Shape-Ups shoes need a very individual approach from an owner. One person might walk in Shape-Ups 24/7 and be happy. Another might feel bone discomfort in this type of shoes. In any case I strongly advice to alternate walking in Shape-Ups with walking in regular walking shoes.
Another way to alternate your muscles work out and use different types of muscles is to go barefoot! No, really. Go barefoot but without a fear to injure your feet soles.
On some point you'll have to clean your Shape-Ups. Here are some tips.

I have had Skeckers before and they are GREAT shoes! =] However, I have never heard of these ones! thanks!
My daughter has tendonitis -- I wonder if that will work for her? Thanks for the informative, thorough 1st hand review--too bad I'm more of a flip-flop person.
How about those shoes shown below?--outrageously cute!
I just ordered a pair of these and got them today. It was difficult to find a pair in the right size, so choosing the color wasn't really an option. I received the grey and pink and they are even less attractive in person than online. I walked around the house for a few minutes and didn't notice any increased muscle activity. What I did notice, however, was that when I sat down to check my e-mail, after only a minute or so my left toes were falling asleep and an ache in my right arch. I'll have to give these a few more laps around the house before I send them back, but so far it's been disappointing. :(
These sound insane! Have you tried to jog in them? I get tired walking on the beach super quick...it really works my calves. I might have to get a pair of these lol.
ha ha i can imagine this scenario but i would have tried the same thing. is it like walking in blocks?
that is great...i really think i might try these...but i enjoy running lol
ReuVera - Thanks for the wonderful info. I eventually want to get a pair of these. I have a pair of leg-toning sandals but these seem to be more rigorous. I'll check them out come fall. Good hub!!
Where did you get yours at? I really like the style of yours but can't find them on the web.
I have heard of these before but was unsure if they really worked. Thanks for the info.
There are a couple of Shape Ups for men (I have mine!) and there are lots more coming, too. Keep watching www.skechers.com for new styles, new colors, wide widths, and even Shape Ups boots!
Tim the Shoe Guy
There are a lot of new styles for men and there will be more and more styles coming out according to skechers.com ReuVera, I am glad you are here. I have been searching the net for a few answers. 1) I see there are shape-up metabolize and shape-up optomize and a shape up fitness. Are these different levels of work out? For example, on the skechers website they have the metabolize and the soles look HUGE! Now they just got in some new ones that are called optomize, and things. Do you know if there is any difference in level of work outs? By the way? Those shoes at the bottom go froom goofy to frightening. Asian girls feet are wrapped not to grow and I think they practice for heels in those torture devices down there... Yikes. Yet some woman do wear heels that long. Maybe they practice in those??? :-) Thanks much!!!!
Thank you so much! I have been going back and fourth about getting some!
Aside from these shoes giving one an added workout while wearing them, please be careful with them. The 1st time I used mine I walked for 20 mins. and all was fine. Then I followed some of the strengthing exercises in the book and the moment I unlocked my knee to do them correctly, my knee tweaked and I've been on crutches now for 2 weeks. Yes, they give the added workout, but do be careful. -dtabor
Would you say these run true to size? - I don't like returning things and want to order online so debating about going up a half size.
I have heard about these and wondered whether they really worked as advertised. Thanks for the information.
For my job I walk and stand all day long. Do you think I could wear these shoes to work and get part of my exercise done there?
My best bought these for me and I LOVE them! They are expensive but well worth the dollars. The running joke (pun intended) is I will go anywhere I can where these! Great shoes - all sneakers should be made this way. Great hub! Than you for sharing.
Those shoes really looked comfortable.
So your first comment I noticed was 5 months ago. After having them that long have you had any results?
I was wondering if these are any better than mbt shoes, which I found looking around the other day here:
http://www.walkingshoesonline.com/mbt_shoes
I like the fact that these are a lot cheaper than the mbt's.
I am training to walk a marathon. Just did 14 miles last weekend. What do you think about using these shoes as part of the training to walk a marathon?
Has anyone noticed that Shape Ups seem to develop the butt muscles?
Hi ReuVera,
I didn't really understand the answer about muscle toning (visible...not just being able to feel it), and, more importantly to me, cellulite reduction. I'm still on the fence about these shoes. I'm wondering if I should buy them, or just start running to get the 'leg results' I want.
Any suggestions?
Hi, I saw these at a local shoe shop one day. They were selling them for about $200, but the price isn't what concerns me. When I saw these I laughed, not because they look ridiculous but because it was ironic. You can get the same effects by wearing thin soled shoes. When I say thin soled I mean close to bearfoot. The effects everyone is feeling when wearing these is caused by a whole life of wearing sports shoes with to much padding on the heel. Meaning that if you start walking on the balls of you feet. The muscles on you feet and some muscles on your legs are not used to it. That is why people will feel tired when wearing them.
By wearing really thin soled shoes you can get the same effects from these shoes because walking how you normally walk would hurt your heels, thus forcing you to walk with your weight on the balls of your feet. After your muscles are reconditioned you would probrably be able to wear them for extended periods of time without feeling fatigued.
I want every one that is skeptic to go to a department store and try these on. I did today because I was skeptic and walked around for about 15 mins in them to get the feel of them. They are so awesome just as soon as I can afford them I am going to go buy them. plus if you did your reasearch there is not a lot of padding on the heal there is just wonderful arch support that is where the thickness is. I work for a podietrist (foot doctor) and he says these shoes really work. got to www.skechers.com and they have various styles and for men and women.
Would using these on a treadmill be okay, in your opinion?
I have been eyeballing these for the past week. I sit all day at my FT job and am now on my feet for 10-30 hours with my other jobs. Even my Dr. Scholls hurt within a 8 hour shift.
I tried out these shoes after work today, and WOW! I don't know about the actual "work out" part, but man did these feel great on my feet. In the rolling design, the arch made the hurt go away. One of the employees at this shop was wearing a worn looking pair and says she swears by them.
At the least, they sound great for those of us who are on our feet a lot, on top of the other benefits.
Got these shoes about 3 weeks ago. Wore them around house (going back & forth to barn, maibox). Didn't hurt feet at all but did notice that my butt checks were sore at night because of the shoes. Have wore them last 2 days for shopping and I'm real sore. I am out of shape. My whole core is sore--hurt to get up or down. Had to take couple of asprin to just move. Was okay the next day but still tender. I can tell the shoes are working!
Sorry for posting twice. My browser isn't working properly.
krbe61802, I'm assuming your directing this at me when you say "plus if you did your reasearch there is not a lot of padding on the heal". I wasn't talking about Sketchers shape-ups when I said that. I was talking about the average running shoe. I'm not a skeptic either, I know these shoes work.
Shape ups are originally made for women, but are now available for men.. I bought a pair for myself just yesterday......
Massage therapy is both science and art of relieving a persons pain, stress, and discomfort. It incorporates various hand, foot, and body pressures that rejuvenate the weary mind and body due to the strenuous daily routines and activities.
Did anyone find out if the different styles are for different levels of workouts?
I've just bought a pair of Shape-ups. The left shoe feels like it is high onthe outside and it allows my left ankle to fall to the inside of the shoe. Is this normal? I put the shoes back in the box and I'm thinking about taking them back.
I bought these the week of Christmas and have been wearing them to work. I don't take walks or exercise on a daily basis but I bought them mainly because I can never find good shoes that fit my wide foot, plus I'm on the heavy side and my feet always get the brunt of the work. I have developed that pain in my toes as the author has and I think it's because I'm not quite used to them yet. All in all I love them. They are the first "regular" shoe I have worn for years. I could only wear skater shoes before these. These are the first shoes that I haven't given up on after a week.
I myself also bought a pair back in October for $99 at the factory shoe store, I got the black and white ones since Im always wearing black..these shoes have toned my lower half up very quickly! I went from a size 7 to a size 1 in a matter of months! I love it! My muffin top still has some work to do, but I have added in weights, and eating helathier also (but I still have my chocolate once a day)
Good reading- thanks for the input. I'm a mom looking for a good walking workout and wanted to investigate these shoes. Just so everyone knows- they have them a DSW (at least online) and it looks like they now offer boots and flip flops in this style!
I have a lot of foot discomfort-the ball of my foot and numbness in my toes-also knee pain. I can't afford to buy them and not be able to wear them. Any advice? Thanks!
I just bought a pair of the Shape Ups after being an MBT wearer for the last couple of years. I'm heavy and if I wear the MBT's for walking they are great, but for shopping or everyday wear the soles of the MBT's get hard. I find the Shape Ups have a much softer sole and don't bother my feet when standing still.
I bought the curved bottom shoes to help take pressure off of a bad knee and hopefully put off any thoughts of a future knee replacement, that seems to run in my family. I find that the posture you have to maintain in them helps not only take pressure off of my knees, but also my hips and lower back.
I only have a couple of negatives about curved bottom shoes, 1) watch where you are stepping until you get very use to them or you may land on your behind (I have) and 2) the added thickness of the soles can make getting up somewhat hard from a sitting position. The pros far outweigh the cons for me.
I forgot to add that I found the Shape Ups that I bought ran very short and I had to buy a larger size than usual.
Yes, and I did have an x-ray and it was OK although he told me to consult a foot doctor if I had more problems. The pad on the bottom of my foot gets sore with toe numbness. It started up when I joined Curves in July. It's starting up again so I am quiting Curves because all the leg machines and hopping around bother it. I was hoping that the shoes would get me some leg/foot exercise. I did watch the DVD that came with my friends purchase. I appreciate your advice ladies!!
Thanks to everyone for the comments. I'm going to order a pair and can't wait to try them!!!
Have to wonder if they'll help strengthen my legs and my wii game
not while on the wii, but if they strengthen my legs, improve my balance, who knows..
The shoes are great except for one MAJOR thing. I just about got into a car accident because of them. This is something to watch for if you drive a STICK SHIFT. I was taking my daughter to school. When I walked down to the car it was wet, so the bottom of my shoes were wet and slippery. After I dropped her off, I was waiting to get into traffic when my foot slipped off of the clutch. I lurched right into traffic and almost got hit by a speeding car (really was completely speeding). Anyway, DON'T WEAR THESE SHOES IF IT'S WET OUT AND YOU DRIVE A STICK SHIFT. Your feet will end up slipping off the clutch due to the upward curve at the front of the shoe. Other then that, they are comfortable. I don't feel like I am getting a lot of exercise with them however, and I am generally feeling balanced. I am a little disappointed about that. I have worn them daily for almost a month now.
I haven't noticed any soreness or difference in muscle tone. I have worn these shoes for nearly a month. After the first five minutes they were just comfortable. I am wondering if maybe I always walked with my weight shifted forward anyway. Since I have flat feet with no arch. I don't know. I am not in great shape so I am disappointed it hasn't made me even slightly sore and I wear them all day. Has anyone else had this happen?
My husband and son just bought these for me. I am so happy with them. I need to have a bunion operated on soon, so I have continual foot pain. I am a devoted shoe aholic, so wearing these takes the pain away often enough to wear my other shoes(for a short time). I have felt the same soreness described and have upped the workout to Yoga standing positions for balance. I am so pleased with these I may order the styles that look more"shoe" like. I can not wear tennis shoes to work but I desperately want to wear my "Shape ups" I have a small foot and also narrow
5 1/2,My husband said it was impossible to find my size in local stores and so he ordered them. They are a perfect fit.
L.W.H you might try a 'mary jane' version for work. They also have non-slip sole versions of those which looked good. I just can't afford multiples on these yet.
Great website ReuVera! I got these Saturday night and wore them all day yesterday...even played Wii tennis in them, lol. I didn't feel much difference at first while I was wearing them, but this morning I woke up and was SO sore. I think I should have followed the directions that came with the shoes and have only worn them for a little while the first few days. I like many others on here am a shoe addict, but these are my new favorites, they are SO comfy...I'll just have to be careful to use them in moderation until my legs and core get into better shape and can get used to them.
ReuVera, do the winter boots have a deeper tread than the sneakers?
ReuVera, I looked at the link but didn't notice that they didn't have the thick soles. They have out some Shape Ups that look a lot like those boots, but I can't tell if the tread is deeper or not.
The shape upS are wonderful i have notice some soreness in my tighs and abdomen area of course i wear them eveyday for about nine hours i must say they work I have been wearing shape ups for about one month and i have gone down one dress size.
i wore them first day today. They feel awkward but I really do want to try them out a couple more days. They are soft when you take steps, so I'm pretty sure that walking now does not give pressure to spine.
Has anyone seen the "GEISHA" film? Do you remember the shoes the geishas used to walk on? The had the same rolling shape and their posture was really good. OK I know its just a film but it should be like this in reality too.
Has anyone used the shape ups on an elliptical or treadmill? Work okay?
Holmar, of course these will not work for you. That is because you've been walking on the balls of your feet all your life, certain muscles are conditioned enough so that is why they don't work for you. These shoes will only work for people who heal strike when they run and walk. I know they won't work for me either, as I run and walk on the balls of my feet.
I have been thinking about these shoes for weeks. I finally broke down and bought a pair yesterday. I love them. I wouldn't walk the flights of stairs though. They threw me off balance. I did a walking DVD yesterday for 4 miles....these are better than my walking shoes I have bought in the past. I even have them on for work right now. Anyone know of any discounts on the shoes out there? I would buy more. One question. I was not sure if I should buy them to fit snug me right now or should have I bought a little bigger.
I have been reading this article and also debated on Shape Up Shoes. I am a shoe-oholic and addicted to gadgets but it looks like these shoes might really be worth it. Do you all recommend the Sketchers Shape Up Shoes over the actual "Shape Up Shoe" that looks like a flip flop? Has anyone tried the Sketchers Shape Up Mary Jane or Boot?
I wore my Shape Ups for the first time for about half an hour or so. That was 6 days ago. I am still suffering with severe pain in my hips and lower back. I am really hoping that the pain will go soon. Has anyone else experience this? If so, how long did it last and should I continue wearing them?
I have had my Shape Ups since Christmas, and have worn them almost every day. I love them! I can already see a difference in my legs, and I have less back and hip pain. I've been writing a week by week review on my blog. I have to say I'm very impressed!
I've been wearing my shapeups around the house on weekends, still have tags on, still trying to decide if I'm keeping or not. Tried briefly on the elliptical, but seemed to slide forward in the shoe and hurt my toes. Prob won't try that again. Most likely will keep. Haven't suffered any pain, but I also routinely use the elliptical and workout dvds
I wrote 8 days ago saying that since wearing my Shape Ups I have had severe pain in my lower back and hips. The pain is still as servere and my Doctor has Diagnosed a slipped disk. I don't think could have anything to do with the Shape Ups. It more just a coincidence that it happended around the same time. Now I can't wait to get better and start wearing them again.
Finally got them....I Love them . What a workout. BUT, they rub on the bottom of my boney ankle, Little sore. I think Ill get over that. And will enjoy them. Lady Footlocker has a great selection. GO There !
Hello, everyone! I bought these shoes on Thursday and used them when I did my walking workout routine. It's about 40 minutes and I noticed that my feet were hurting about half way through. The pain is on the cushions of both big toes and it lasted all day and onto the next day! I'm thinking of returning them because I've never had that problem before. Maybe I was doing something wrong? Not sure, but, I am kind of disappointed :(
On Amazon.com they have at least 6 different kinds of men's shape up shoes. There are ones for work that look nice. There are leather, and then there are tennis shoes as well, along with sandles. The men's shoes are a little more costly though.
How long do the shoes last for the price? Are they good quality or do they wear down within a couple of months? How long have you had yours?
these are a physical therapist's dream...good luck when you all develop plantar fasciitis, joint problems and problems other areas within your body because your trying to constantly compensate for an unequal equilibrium
Hi,
I am going to definitely buy a pair shape ups,i love skechers anyways,i tried a pair on and i was going to purchase online, but was wondering if i should try a half size bigger before i make my purchase? It was my size, but felt maybe a little tight in the toe area.
Your responce is greatly appreciated,thank-you. :)
Diane, these shoes are more like a physical therapist's nightmare. Since all they do is simulate barefoot walking, they will most likely help prevent most problems associated with the feet and knees. High heels on the other hand will cause most of these problems, especially ones associated with the knees. Since these aren't raised on the heel but instead on the midfoot and close to you the balls they would not cause any long term damage.
Been wearing mine for 2 weeks, they are great. I'm on my feet alot at work, and at the end of the day my back and legs feel much better than before the Shape-ups.
My husband and I bought these shoes just two weeks ago, and we really love the the way they feel. However, we are both noticing a significant amount of wear on the soles already. (We walk 3 miles per day on an asphalt road.) Has anyone else had this experience? After paying $100 for a pair of walking shoes I must say I am quite disappointed to have them not hold up well with less than 50 miles usage.
I bought a pair of Shape-Ups last a couple of weeks ago. I LOVE them! I bought them from a Sketchers store. They sales lady helped me get a perfect fit. I have been working out on the Wii Fit and wearing these shoes regularly to my office. I must say that I have lost weight. Between the Wii Fit and the shoes I am seeing results. The Shape-Ups are super comfortable and I don't think they look that bad. If you wear pants like most people, the pant leg covers most of the shoe where it looks different from other shoes. I would recommend these shoes to anyone.
I love my Shape-up shoes very much, when my co-workers notice it they also went buy it, Its like our uniform shoes at work. I should have a good discount from schetchers shoes.
I bought the Mary Jane Shape-up and they make my 68 year old legs feel great. They are like shocks for the feet and legs. I am ready to try line dancing again.
Hi, I love my Shape-ups I been wearing it now for a couple of weeks. I'm alternating it with reg. shoes. But now I am feeling soreness on my left heal. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Is there any one out there who has this same problem?
How can I fix this?
I just bought a pair of these shoes and wore them today. Almost immediately I noticed it seemed like my right shoe didn't have the arch and padding that my left shoe had! I didn't wear them for any great length of time, but now my right heel is painful. I assume it's due to the unbalance that is caused by the right shoe being less padded than the left one - very odd. Also, when walking, the shoes seem to make my ankles turn in. I am not sure I want to keep these shoes. Anyone else have any of these experiences?
I dunno, this is day two and I am following the wearing time, but my feet and heels tell me that I may have to give up on these shoes. More pain than gain right now.
Curious to hear from more of the guys that have bought these. I typically walk 25-35 miles a week - 8 miles on a regular day and have bad knees - 2 ACL recon's on one knee and a pending ACL/MCL on the other. Any feedback would be great. Thx.
I bought a pair of these last weekend. I have been exercising, trying to eat right and I thought this would make a nice addition to my routine. I have to say they took a little getting use to the first day but after that I really started to enjoy them. I figure if I can get a little something extra out of taking the dogs for a walk, why not. I can definitely say I can feel more of a workout in my legs and core muscles. Plus I am over 6' tall and tend to not stand straight when I walk but I find I have much better posture with these. I am really enjoying them so far.
I just wore these for the first time today. Bought them because I suffer from plantar fascitis. (heel pain) I thought these might help take the pressure off my heels. Happy to say that I wore them all day and I do not have heael pain tonight. I did not watch the video (guess I should have) and I did wear them at work all day. I sit at a desk most of the day. I don't feel it in my muscles yet but after reading all the comments, I might be sore tomorrow. Bought them at Kohls with a 30% off coupon and only paid $79.99 for them. What a deal! I have to say they are comfortable and you feel like your walking on a sponge. Driving at first was a challenge as I felt like I couldn't feel the gas pedal but I got used to that rather quickly. I had a sore toe already...it did put too much pressure on that. But that is no fault of the shoe... My vote, after only one day is....I like them! Will update you later to let you know if I tone up by wearing them...
Well now that I am relaxing on the sofa...I do feel the ache of my muscles...I guess that means the are working. I just wish I didn't have a sore toe because walking on my toes is really making my one toe hurt. The other toes are all fine...
Hi ReuVera! Thanks so much for this post & answering everyones questions in the comments. I was just researching these shoes because I'd like to get a pair for spring and start walking. I wasn't sure if they worked or not but they sounds great. :)
Must say I am shocked....my abdomen is sore and so are the muscles in my legs. I guess they really are going to work! Thank you for these blogs!
i really like this articles very fine
Yeah ReuVera...I should have watched the video but I actually did well my first day. Wasn't nearly as sore as I thought I would be for not going slow with the shoes. But I go to body sculpting so that is probably why I wasn't real sore. And it only lasted a few hours this morning, then I was fine. Wore the shoes for half the day today and I feel good. Going to start going on lunch time walks next week. Can't wait!
I've had my Shapeups for about 2 months- love them. Don't wear them to drive or exercise. I do wear them around the house, morn to night (retired). Have a Steelcase desk with treadmill attached, so can walk for hours while working on computer and phone, etc. Husband just retired and we'll go get his Sketchers tomorrow. Great workout without even trying!
Walked on the treadmill. Loved it!
I bought mine on a trip to Vegas and walked miles on the strip right out of the store. Have been trying to exercise more recently but have some pain from my heel (old injury/surgery) and back. After a week walking in the shapeups on the treadmill and outside the pain is gone. Walked 10k yesterday with no pain from the heel at all this morning. Love them. Notice the posture improvement right away.
Bought my shape-ups about a month and only wear them around the house and shopping. I've had very bad knees for years and have been avoiding surgery, but the pain was starting to worsen so I tried these at the store and was nearly pain-free. Shape-ups have made my knee pain nearly none existent, which is miraculous to me! I'm going to try them out on the treadmill (no running, just walking) and keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have good results. Wish me luck!
To cc:
I have used mine on the treadmill hesitantly at first but am now walking at 10-15% incline and up to 6.4 km/hr. I noticed the improvement in my stride right away and when pushing yourself on the higher inclines the effect on your core muscles is very noticeable.
Thanks ReuVera!
Duder I did 20 minutes on the treadmill today at 3.5 mph on a miniscule incline for a very tentative test run and they felt great. I'm so excited not to have knee pain! Will continue and slowly up my levels. I like how the Shape Ups really make me focus on every step for proper balance, position and posture.
ReuVera, I sincerely appreciate this personal review of Skecher Shape-Ups. I've seen ad's for them and commercials all over the place, and honestly I was a huge skeptic--but these comments are 99% positive! My mom and I are going to the shoe store ASAP to pick ourselves a pair. Thank you so much!!!!
I bought a pair of Shape Ups 3 days ago and I love them! I have had heel spurs for over a year, been to the foot specialist which had me take medicine for it & do exercises. I work on concrete all day & it was very painful! Pain every time I put my heel down! I knew the moment I put the Shape Ups on that it would help & it has tremendously!
I had stopped at Foot Solutions to see if they had Shape Ups and they didn't. They did have the MBT's however & I was told that the Shape Up's were the off brand of the MBT's. The MBT's would have cost me $250!! I was visibly shocked! So I chose to find the Shape Up's
I did have to order size 11 cause the 10's (my normal size) were too tight.
It took a few days to get used to walking in them but it is SO refreshing to walk without pain! I would recommend these to anyone!
I noticed also that they do sell the "slip resistance" Shape Ups which is really neat for those who need them for work. My son's buying him a pair cause it's required where he works.
I do suggest that when you first start wearing the Shape Ups to be extremely careful when driving. I drive a stick shift & haven't had any problems but the soles are so much thicker that you don't think about that when pushing the gas pedal & you tend to speed up quicker in these. Just be careful & you'll be fine.
The instructions & DVD suggest wearing them for about 25 minutes a day the first day but I put mine on and wear them all day long! The foot specialist had told me when I first started going to him that if people would train their children to wear shoes (NOT houseshoes, but real shoes or clogs) from the time they put their foot down in the morning till they go to bed, they'd had less feet problems.
I'm wearing my Shape Up's instead of my clogs because they're that comfortable for me! I will always wear these. Thanks to Skechers I'm pain free for the first time in over a year! YAHOO!!
I have had my skecher shape ups for a couple of months. I love them. I wear them everyday that I work. I walk alot at work. Went to the Doc the other day and i have lost over 7 pounds without any effort. You got to love these shoes!!!
Yes, Wendy! I had the same problem with the Shape Ups, only it was the left shoe that didn't have enough support in the arch and heel. I exchanged them for a new pair--and they were the same. I think it's faulty production and will just go back to my good old running shoes for now. That's too much money to spend on shoes that caused me days of pain!
Thanks Karen for your feedback. I thought I was the only person on the planet that struggled with these shoes. Funny thing is that I am at an ideal weight and exercise on a regular basis, so it's not that I'm out of shape! I have to say, I did exchange my first pair (the meshy type called Fitness Junkie) for the more solid style (Metabolize/black). I found the second pair to be a bit more stable on my ankles and feet and they did seem to not have issues with the padding although I did put a heel pad into the right shoe to aleviate pain that I have regardless of what shoe I wear. I am wearing them half of my workday now, but still can't wait to take them off at lunchtime to switch them with my good old fashioned sneaks. I keep telling myself that if all these people love these shoes, I must be completely nuts. I dunno.
If you like flip-flops Skechers now offers "Tone-ups" which is the flip-flop version of Shape-ups. I got mine and I LOVE them!!! I can feel my calf legs "burn" when wearing them!! They are not really heavy either! Now I am considering getting the "Shape-ups" because I LOVE MY "TONE-UPS" so MUCH!!! They are stylish too!!!
I have had them almost 2 weeks. I have flat feet and the shoes hurt me in the arch support area .... beacause I do not have an arch :)
Has anyone else had this problem with the arch area hurting?
I also have to really work on my walk to not have my ankle turn in.
Fellow flat footed walkers please comment.
I usually walk 2 miles a day but my feet hurt after a mile.
I bought Shape Ups yesterday. I had been thinking about it since the ads came out around Christmas. I LOVE THESE SHOES! I was actually surprised that my brother (25 Male) was talking about getting them. He was in a bad accident had has hardly any ankle flexibility and it is painful for him to be on his feet constantly. Except his job requires him to be on his feet all day! He bought the shoes and said they make a huge difference.
I waitress and am on my feet all day. I bought some Dr. Scholls mary jane style shoes for work, and they worked great for about the first month, then I was back to aching feet. Mainly in my heels. I didn't buy them for the "fitness" aspect, but more so for the comfort. And so far I am very satisfied! Plus I'm 5'1" so I like the extra height it gives me!
We will see how these work out, but my first day wearing them I loved them. The heel is so soft and cushy!
great to read such a long history. good business for skechers too. thanks for your blog
Today was my first day wearing my shape ups for more than 15 min i feel it in my legs i will probably be soar tomorrow. Wanted to know if they were gonna come out with new styles
I love these shoes! I walk during my 15 minute morning break, 30 minute lunch break, and 15 minute afternoon break! Then I walk 1 hour when I get home with my two little dogs. I have lost 22 lbs and no longer bolus insulin for my nutri system meals! I had to lower my basil rate twice already. Once I get down to my goal weight, I'm not sure of my insulin needs will level off or not. I'm sure if I continue this diet and exercise regimen that my diabetis will deminish! Oh, also, I sleep better at night. For a change, when I lay down to sleep, I actually GO TO SLEEP! The next day I am well rested! If you stop moving, all your problems begin. I too had numbness in my feet when I first started using these shoes, oh and the water retention in my lower legs has drastically deminished! I feel more strength and energy and hope I never stop this regimen. The only problem is the weather. Then I utilize the malls or my indoor treadmill. That's not nearly as much fun as walking outside, but it's the next best thing!

I was unsure about buying a pair of these because of the price, but have now decided to go for it. I'm in the UK and will buy them online as they don't seem to sell them in the shops where I live. Thanks to everyone for the comments, they've persuaded me to go for it.
I just started a 2nd job that requires standing for six hours straight. My first job is primarily a sit down job. My feet and legs were aching after the first night. I am wondering if these shoes would help. Any comments??
I HAVE BEEN WEARING THESE SHOES FOR ALMOST 9 MONTHS NOW I AM HAVING SEVERE PAIN IN MY LOWER BACK AND HIPS I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE DOCTORS ALOT FOR THIS PROBLEM I STOPPED WEARING THEM 2 WEEKS AGO AND I FEEL BETTER SEE I WAS WEARING THEM 12 HOURS A DAY 6 DAYS A WEAK MAYBE THAT IS TOO MUCH ANY ONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?
I received my shape ups today.. I put them on, laid down on the couch and took a nap... when I woke up - I felt wonderfully refreshed and was not sore at all... tomorrow, I may take a walk in them, but the nap was nice...
Hi,
What about running? Do they do even more when you run? Do you have any before and after photos?
Ok - I went for a long walk this morning with my dog in my new Shape Ups... love them... they are great on pavement and sidewalk.. however - its tricky in grassy areas, but do-able. It is freakishly hot for this time of year in VA, so after an hour, my dog and I were both worn out... might have to grab a nap later ;)
Can I get shape ups for my dog?
i have now had my shoes for about a month. i absolutely love love love them. i wish they came out with them long ago. they are so comfortable and after you get use the them it's strange that you don't even realize that you are walking in these strange shoes. but when you go back to a flat shoe of some sort, that's strange! time to jump on the treadmill and get my walk on....
I've had the mary janes since November. I developed knee problems in them when wearing them too much. Definitely alternate them with other shoes.
I just received my Woman's Shape-ups Sleek Fitness shoes. They fit great through the toe box, but slip just a bit on my heels. Is this normal? I have a bad back and ordered this style because of the easy velcro fastener. I am a very over-weight diabetic and somewhat limited in mobility, but I am determined to get moving as much as possible and hope these shoes will increase my success. I also have bad knees, plantar fascitis and after reading the reviews I hope to relieve some of that pain also. I know these aren't miracle shoes, but anything that gets me up and motivated and feels good has got to be a blessing. I will follow the directions to start out slow and alternate work-out shoes. I am excited to get out and get moving!!
I was wondering if these would be good for me? I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. Its a disease that affects the joints and my back and my arches in my feet. I have specially made arch supports which i know u wouldn't be able to wear with the shape ups, so im just wondering if these shows would be good for me. I have been told i need shoes with good support that wont break down easy.
Thanks Amanda
I got my shape ups last week and I have to say after wearing them for a while, I'm very happy with them. I'm a nurse and I walk and move around for about 12 hours a day and I can't say enough about how comfortable these shoes are. Of course, at first my feet sort of hurt and I could feel them in my thighs and calves and hip but my friend says it was probably from me walking wrong (I tended to drag me feet). I kept at it though and after day 3, I just don't know how I ever worked without them. Not only did my posture improve (I used to slouch), but my back pain had disappeared (we do a lot of lifting and I was having lots of lower back pain). I even feel like my buttocks are more firm. I would definitely recommend these shoes to anyone who does a lot of walking in their work or to anyone who just want comfy shoes to walk or work out in.
I had varicous veins removed last summer. In November, I bought a pair of shape=ups. I wore them for 7 weeks and noticed a small new vein behind my knee.Had it removed in Dec. and had no signs of new veins. By By Feb. a new large vein appeared along my knee on my other leg. There seemed to be no apparent reason for this.Only new thing I was doing was wearing the shape-ups. let me know if anyone has had the same problem
ReuVera, Excellent blog - thank you. It is great that you keep up with the comments. I really appreciate your diligence.
I have been eyeing these shoes for awhile. I only wish they came in wide widths. I wonder why they don't. I will have to go to a store to find the correct size but will probably purchase online after I know what to order.
Two questions: I still don't understand the difference in the styles - optimal etc. Can you shed any light?
Also, have you seen the commercials advertising the Dr. Scholls foot computer? It's in retail stores. You step on it and it gives you feedback regarding your feet. I saw one in the pharmacy of Walmart the other day. I checked it out and it said I put most of my weight on my heels. (and then of course suggested a $50 insert for my shoes) My question is if you walk on your heels does that make you a good candidate for the shape ups?
Thanks so much
ReuVera,awesome blog-thank you. I bought my shape-ups for
our trip to Reno 4 weeks ago, I knew we would be walking a lot and all day, and I was looking for a comfortable shoe and when I put my foot in them it was love at first touch..lol I heard some stuff about them, but didn't watch the video and didn't try them out for a day or two before we left. We walked a lot! I came home 8 days later and I lost an 1'' in my theighs... so it can work. I felt my feet, legs and buttock every day with a tiredness at the end of the day..... but I love them and even now after 6 hours of wearing them I still feel that tiredness/ache. I've also noticed my posture is better.
Your doing a wonderful thing, helping us all research this product. Thanks.
Here is a link about the footmapping at Dr. Scholl's.
Near me it's only Walmart that has this "thing". I don't know if it's a legit thing or not but since it really read my feet as having my heels carry my weight I wonder about the shape ups. I am a diabetic and have lost 30+ lbs but want to start walking. These shoes could be a really nice addition to my efforts if they will work for a "heel walker"
So I have a question, Should I buy them or no? I am really considering it, but I would like to hear the opinion of someone who already owns Shape Ups and knows how they work.
Yes I already read the hub. I am wondering if they are WORTH the 110$ I don't want them if I am not going to see any results.
I bought shape=ups about 3 mouth ago and They are the best for walking. I travel allot so I am touring different places. The problem I have is I have fallen down 3 time in the last 3 weeks. I thought because the shoes are so comfortable that I didn't notice a dip in the sidewalk and twisted my ankle, although not bad enough to go to a doctor but I do fear that I could fall again and it could be bad. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it the latitudes of the shoe.
I just got a pair of these today as an early birthday gift. I tried them on in the store to get the right fit, and after just walking around the store i could feel the burn lol. I wore them for most of the day and I could defiantly feel the workout. My toes did feel a bit numb and painful but I figure after i get used to the shoes then the problem will get better. So far I love these shoes!
Hi there!
I'm thinking about buying a pair of shapeups but I suffer from shin splints and am worried that these shoes may not be good for them?
Has anyone suffered from sore shins?
Thanks
My friend has had a pair of Shape Ups for a month now and she has lost 2.5" off each thigh in that time, which I think is amazing! Just from wearing these shoes when she goes for a walk! So I ordered mine and they arrived this morning. I've been wearing them around the house all day, just to get used to them, and I did notice that my toes started to go a little numb in them at first, but that soon passed. I read the leaflet that came with the shoes and that said that just standing in Shape Ups is beneficial as your muscles have to work to correct your posture, so I stood and did the ironing in them for an hour and I can definitely feel a slight 'ache' in my back. Not a bad ache, I can just tell that I've worked muscles that haven't been worked in a while. I can't wait to hit the pavements in them and start shaping up whilst enjoying the sunshine and fresh air!
I have had my shape ups for about a week now and they do everything they say they do, i noticed a difference in my lower back the first day, everyone should own a pair, they are a little expensive but istn your health worth it
An obvious benefit of buying the shoes is that you will not doubt walk more than you otherwise would.
Also - if you buy them through shoebuy.com and get a 10-20% coupon you can save some real money on the purchase of them.
I wore my shape-ups 4-5 hrs the first day. It has been 3 days and my back is still so sore. I have no soreness anywhere else. My feet and legs felt great. When I wear them again, I will pay more attention to the way I walk since I didn't watch the video before I wore them.
Hello! I have been reading up and doing a lot of research on both the skechers shape-ups and the new Reebok EasyTone. I'm still iffy on witch one's would be more helpful for me but i do have one question. I do a considerable amount of walking during the day,(I have 3 large dogs that need to be exercised daily) and my man and I have been working together to keep each other motivated to workout more. I live out in the sticks and there is nothing but dirt and gravel roads around. would these still work the same way as they would on paved roads and would you wear them hiking in the bush?
Thank-you
Rachelle
ReuVera, Thank-you for the advise on these particular shoes. thankfully I have a Treadmill in my basement, so they may still be of some help to me.... On a scale of 1 - 10, when it comes to urban use would you say that they are worth the 200$ that they go for...?
I love the picture of the feet shoes, i would wear them out every where if i had them, can some please tell me where i can get them!!!
In stores in Canada they so far I have found that they range from 144.99$ to 154.99$ So I Basically rounded it up to 200 and asked myself if I'm willing to pay that for a shoe. I'm still looking for a better price on the internet. In my past experience I could never order anything to Canada from Amazon. I will follow your links and see if they will ship it to me.
Thank-you so much ReuVera you and your replys to everyones questions have been a big help in my desision to puchase a pair of these shoes.
Rachelle
144.99 to 154.99 Before tax.
The shoes are great. When walking feels like you are walking on air. My only trouble with the shape ups are I want to walk to the inside having a hard time with this.
I finally got a pair of Shape-ups 2 hours ago. They are a very comfortable shoe. When I tried them on in the store and walked around I noticed my stomach slightly tightening. after I got home I went for a 10 min trail walk and then walked on the treadmill for 15 mins. I don't notice any soreness in my leg muscles, But I may in the morning. I did notice my stomach is tightening more then usual( it could be due to stronger leg muscles the ab muscles). So far so good. Thank-you Very much ReuVera for your help and creation of this hub page.
P.S I'm now considering a pair of tone-up flip flops..... :D
Again thank-you
Rachelle
i dont like them
After numerous foot surgeries and being fitted and using orthodics, these Shape-Ups are a pleasure to wear. I bought them yesterday and walked in them this a.m. for 30 minutes. Every step felt good and I'm even walking faster!
I have had these shoes for about a month now. Love them!! The first week or so, my legs and back were sore. Not a painful sore, just a "hey I had a good workout" sore. I am starting to notice that my ankles are pronating inwards now. I have to struggle to keep my ankles postured just right. Any suggestions?
I got these 4 days ago, they are the most comfortable shoe I ever wore. As far as exercise or working your muscles, I say keep your money. I walked on the treadmill, an hour on the road each day, and wore them to work.I never exercise so I was sure i'd be sore, a tiny bit in the calve but nothing else. I watched the video so I know I'm walking right. It said no more than 20 mins. to start. That was a joke, but i'll say again they are extremely comfortable.
i was wondering if anyone on this hub is what they call "morbidly obese" I am and I am looking for a good shoe to just get started... I tried these on at the mall but the price stopped me... I use to be a member at curves but the expense was too much. So i thought along with watching what I eat (have lost 10 pounds that last few monthes) I would start walking for 30 to 45 minutes a day (mom of 2, part time job, and full time student)its all the time i can commit to it right now... please let me know if this shoe is only for those that are slightly over weight. or if it can handle all body shapes and sizes
Hello,
Would you please let me know how tall these shoes make you? The heel seems to be quite thick-what's the heel height?
Thank you for being so generous with your time! Sketchers should be sending you coupons of F.R.E.E. shoes!
I bought shape up shoes cost £90 but sadly as I have to walk down steep hills to work they made my Arthritis in my knee worse I dont know if its because of the bounce when you walk....I ended up getting a steroid injection in my knee...My SHAPE...UPS??????????..SADLY asleep forever in the back of the cupboard...
Skechers Shape-ups work great for me. I have been wearing them for about two months, and you should see the difference in my legs and thighs. My calves are so much more toned, and the definition is wonderful. My thighs are looking much better, but still have some stubborn cellulite. Oh, and my butt is definitely looking better. I am 59 years old, and haven't looked this good in a long time. Also, they do come in wide width to the peson who asked earlier.
Thank you for the review! I liked it and it makes me feel good about these shoes. I have always loved Joe Montana but I would rather have your comments on how they work, or don't. Thank you for the input! I will be getting them soon!
Thank you for all the encouraging words ReuVera. I bought shape-ups on Saturday and haven't taken them outside for a walk yet. I walk 45 min at least three times a week and did so up until yesterday. After reading another site and all the ngegative comments from individuals about their injuries, surgeries, and their doctors' negative comments about Shape-ups I was planning on taking them back. I so badly want to keep them so I started looking for other reviews and found yours and the many positive comments on this site. After reading, I've decided to wear them in the house to see how they feel for the day then make a decision, (thus far I am feeling a rubbing on the back of my heel, which may indicate I need a bigger size). However, thanks to this site the plan to return them today is on hold.
Has anyone walked in the rain with them. I have had 2 pairs now that well for lack of better words feel like they deflated. What use are shoes if you can't walk in the rain or snow?
I have a herniated disc and sciatic pain from a (benign) tumor removal. I'm thinking I should ask a doctor before buying these.
I just got my shape-ups as an early Mother's Day present. They don't exactly make my feet look dainty, but I have to say that they seem to be working. Anyone who says that wearing these is the same as barefoot walking hasn't tried them. I am a barefoot walker and generally walk all day with no shoes. I went for a 20 minute walk and had muscle soreness that I have never felt from barefoot walking.
Ive been thinking about buyin a pair of Shape up in a long time..but I was always sceptical..i spent the last hour reading your reviews and the reviews of the Reebok easy tone..Im out buyin my shape up..i will b carefully after reading all ur comments and I won't wear them for too long..thank u so much ReuVera for this blog..Ive got a form of arthitis in my knee..but I really want to shape up my legs as Ive stopped exercisin for nearly 3 months...
I have been wearing shape ups for a month now and haven't had any soreness of any kind. I wear them at work for at least 9/10 hours for 5 days a week. I just don't feel that I'm getting any kind of workout from these shoes. Very confused on what to make out of these shape ups.
I have them and they work pretty good, but the padding in it deflated fast so one foot is higher than the other, and i dont wear them all the time to wear out that fast. are they suppose to do that cuz thats not cool spending that much money on them and they difflate pretty much
Ive been using my Shape up for two days...wore them yesterday in the house for 30 minutes and today again for 1 hour in the house..tomorrow I will challenge them and I'll try to go for a walk..but I love them so far and it doesn't feel awckard walking in them!!!
I've been wearing these shoes for about 1 month. In fact, I have 3 pairs,,,,2 of the tennis shoe styles and one of the full foot sandals. I love them, but wondering if anyone else is having back pain from them? Ever since I've started wearing them, I've noticed considerable more lower/hip back pain. Any suggestions? I've watched in video and read everything there is to read about them.
The theory might sound good, like the negative Earth Shoe had a certain logic to them. But for both these Shape Ups and the Earth Shoes they often create more problems then they solve.
I have had patients in my office that tried them. First it felt good or felt like they were exercising new muscles. After a while the problems began to show.
These shoes alter our natural walking form which can produce injuries. The newest fade in shoes is just that, a fade. Ladies, I am sorry, in the long run they can produce injuries. Please learn to walk or run using the body’s natural form.
DO NOT TRY TO RUN IN SHAPE UPS!!!! - They were not designed for running and may cause serious injury.
Shape Ups are great....BUT..... they have a HUGE downside. They cause you to overpronate even if you're not flat footed or have fallen/low arches.
SUGGESTION - Skip the Shape Ups and get yourself in the gym. For a BETTER shoe I would highly recommend buying some Brooks running shoes. Adrenaline GTS-10 is you overpronate, or the Glycerin if you have a neutral footstrike.
Shape-up shoes really gives shape to our feet and makes us feel comfortable. compared to others brands the quality and the cost are in comparable and i enjoy wearing them even to my work places.
could u wear shape-ups on an 8hr shift? or preferably just for a few hours to get toned up?
50 year old male in good health and I walk about 3 miles a night. I had knee surgery when I was 19 and it has affected my gait ever since. I have been walking in my shape ups for 3 weeks now and I can tell you I have more knee strength leg strength and everything else associated with the benefits of these shoes. That being said I am going thru alot of new pain in one knee and my upper back. If you have medical issues please be careful, you may not want to try and work thru this kind of pain. I will however continue to wear them because of the compliments I'm getting from my wife!!
Do you think these shoes can help develop muscles needed for competitive swimming?
Also, Shape-Ups are not a magic panacea. Gym and right eating habits should be never cancelled.
As the Chinese prepare to foreclose on our economy, we're rushing out to buy $100 pairs of sneakers. We deserve what's coming to us!
Hi,
I purchased a pair a few months ago and I had tried on several different brands and none of them felt as great as these did. I would go for walks in them every day, did not have to much of a problem with them but I did notice that after walking for about 45 + min's my feet started to hurt. After about a month I notice that when I would wake up in the late night/ early morning to feed my son my legs from knee down were num and it took some time to get the feeling back. Since then I have not really wore them and have gone back to my nike's and have not had any leg problems since then.
Just and FYI.

We need to do excise regularly in order to have a healthy body and keep fit. However, we do not have so much time to do some simple exercise. The hard and busy work let us have little time to do exercise, so your body becomes worse.
The shape ups shoes will improve this situation by their special design. The shape ups shoes have been popular around the word and gained a good reputation for the fitness functions. Wearing the shape ups shoes can burn your extra calories and shape your body while walking. This is due to the special design of the sole, which looks like a boat.
I am considering buying these. Has anyone actually lost weight or seen a difference in their figure due to walking in these shoes? anyone? i walk my dog a lot and thats all that i would wear them for. i just need to lose a few pounds and tone in my problem areas...my legs and butocks. are these shoes going to do the trick? i know i know, i need to also eat right and exercise- but do these shoes make a difference?? has anyone lost any weight and/or become more toned directly b/c of wearing these shoes??
I bought a pair of shape ups and I love them, but I have a problem with mine.I washed them and now they have a strong odor to them.I washed them 2 times but the odor want come out.It is so strong that I can't wair them, can anyone help me?
These shoes were terrible. I bought a pair about 2 months ago and returned them yesterday. They hurt my ankles and heels so badly. I'd wear them for a day and take them off and have my feet in tons of pain. Plus they didn't do anything to actually tone my body.
I have been walking in my shape ups for about 3 weeks now every day for at least 2 miles if not more. My calves get really sore after only walking about 5 minutes, am I doing something wrong. I expected to be sore at first, but why after all this time is it still happening.
I walk in shapeups for 2 years, i love them, very comfortable. Like the author of the blog I used to have some tow soreness, but not really alerting to give up on the shapeups. This could be from anything, even from my artritice. so I am not giving up on shape ups. Thank you for advice, I'll be alternating them with regular shoes.
It looks a pair of useful shoes
Got a pair, but like these Ryn shoes much better: http://www.blissworld.com/category/brands/ryn+foot
Hey!
I bought my Shape Ups® today :-) I feel my calves working and it hurts:) Pain is a good thing because it means you did a great job working out today! I'm going to ride my horse tomorrow! Let's see if I'm riding stronger. I bought these shoes because when I'm in my 30's or so; I would like to be o the Olympic Dressage Team... My trainer says I'm really good, but I need to build more muscle to control my feet on the downward transitions (slowing down gaits). I look crazy up there, but I feel my shoes working! I almost died during the 30 minute workout, so I tried the 15 minute workout, which was strenuous but really fun! I love my Shape Ups®! Let's hope I see results in time! (By the way I got my first ever paycheck yesterday and I spent it on these! Let's hope they work for teens!
~Victoria
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I, like many of you are wondering about these special shoes. Tryed on some today, wish I would have walked around the store for 15 minutes like someone wrote but I think I'll start shopping for a pair. I wear a size 6, anyone out there not happy with theirs let me know...maybe we can work something out.
Daniela,
Thanks for the link to Bliss World. I have always trusted Bliss to sell ONLY the best of the best. They Ryn's are expensive, but if they last for 3-5 years they will be worth it. From what I can find on Ryn websites, they claim to be built really well.
Also, and beware everyone, I have been reading MANY reviews on Shape-ups, and it seems that there are LOTS of people who are getting knee, and hip pain/injuries. Could there be an Engineering problem with the Shape-ups? I know that Skechers simply knocks-off most brands. Do they even have Engineering/ Product Development and Quality Control groups?
I rode my horse today:) I did a really good job, and of course I'm starting to feel a little stronger!
I really loved this article on the sketcher shape up shoes. I loved sketchers before I discovered these great shoes. Now when I take my walks as you do I can really feel it. Good job again on the article I love these shoes!
I have worn shoes of this type for awhile now (because of my back)and it's important to know you need to be very careful as it's very easy to become 'naturally' accustomed to standing with all your weight shifted inwards and towards the bigger toes. It's a balancing thing. 1st) Your ankles will become sore and 2nd) You might start noticing callouses developing on the outsides of each big toe because of the weight shift.
Now, I basically wear these shoes only when my back is giving me problems.
I just got my shape ups im at work now wearing them..i work on my feet 8 hrs some tines 10 a day i know ur supposed to take it easy in them the first day but i forgor my regular shoes lol ..i will have to say it only took a short bit to get use to them but i love them already ...im usualy tired all day but i feel great. I definatly feel them working and im shure ill be realy sore tomorrow but god it is so worth it to me ..my boyfriend got them as a gift for me cause i have been talking about them for a year now.. i have to say they are one of the best gifts ive ever gotten i feel the diffrenceand i am so excited to see some results from it ive been on my feet and walking for the past 4 hrs and i feel great..wow i love these shoes.
I purchased a pair of sketcher shape up sandles about 3 months ago - I try to walk in them 3 times a weeks maybe 45 min each time. I am having some pain in my left hip which I never had before - I also have two knew replacements and I was wondering if these shoes are good for someone with knee replacements?
in response to Bri 5 weeks ago,
Yeah! one of my "shape ups" deflated also,
you're right one cannot wear them anymore since it really throws the balance off, love "shapes ups" for their comfort, yet only had them 2 months so it seems the quality of the shoe is a bit shoddy.
Skechers are starting to become more popular in the UK too. It has taken a while to catch on.
One question, could these shoes be worn at a gym?
I love my Sketchers Shape Ups! I didn't know you couldn't run with them though, so am glad I read this review. The Shape Ups are a copy of the MBTA shoes which are ridiculously expensive but they have them in boots and more stylish models. Anyway I'm glad I got my pair. Great review and am impressed at how good you are at responding to comments! :)
I have worked in the restaurant industry for 20+ years and have NEVER been able to find a pair of shoes that could withstand a 9+ hour day without absolutely killing either my feet, knees, or back. I purchased a pair of Sketchers Shape Ups and have been totally amazed. As soon as I put them on I knew they were the most comfortable shoes I have ever had on. After long days at work I have no more sore feet, heels, knees, or back. I have told everyone I know that they REALLY need to try these shoes. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH
I bought my first pair Aug 2009. I am now on my third pair of Shape Ups. I walk every day 3 miles and I can't be without them. One time I unexpectedly walked in another pair of sneakers and I could hardly back it back home as my feet, legs, knees were killing me. However, I do need to replace them every six months as the bottom wears smooth in that time. They take some getting use to as they make you feel "unstable" on your feet at first. However, it is cheaper than a gym fee. Love them!!
Just went for my first walk today with Shape Ups. I was skeptical but it is very comfortable.
If you live in the USA. Sports Authority and Dick's offer a one year replacement plan on sneakers. My friend uses it and recommended it to me. So, if you plan to buy Shape Ups look into the insurance they offer at some stores.
reuvera, thank you for a great review of shepups! you. your review is very honest and shows all sides, pros and cons. it is very reliable and not biassed. i love my shapeups!
ive been looking into getting some. does the size of the heel make a big difference? ive seen some that have a smaller bottom and some with a very large bottom. which are better?
I'm only just finding about shapeups and easytones now. As tempted as I am buy them in a variety of styles I can only afford to to start with one pair and see how it works out. I'm a little confused by all the options. I've decided to go with shapeups after reading reviews. They do have a bunch designed for running now (the accelerator and resistence are two of them.) I'd use mine for walking and the elliptical. There is a bit of rocking motion on the elliptical trainer so I think there may still be benefit to wearing them or so I hope. Not sure if I should compromise with a mary jane, or get the sandals which would be a little more stylish with with street wear, which I could still wear around the house without my feet overheating, but not sure I'd get more toning benefit with a sneaker instead. There's a shapeup sandal which may be more effective than the toneup sandals. Reviews were good. What to do? I have a slight pronation and arthritis in one ankle from an old injury, and one reviewer with the "strength" shapeup would be a problem for anyone pronation, but I wondered if inserts would fix the problem or undermine the toning benefit. Eager to place my order, so I'll figure it out soon. We have no local suppliers so I don't have the option to try things on in person. Oh well. I'm basically looking for the best way to enhance my workout and tone. Action packed, fitness junkie, jump start? So many choices. The accelerator has good lateral support, but as it is lower I'm not sure if it will mean less toning benefit. I'm slightly confused. What style do you have? I haven't seen it online.
The deed is done. I decided to order the sleek fit Mary Janes in black until I'm a little less confused over the range of sneakers. Although by the time I place an order there may well be even more options. The sandals also look very tempting. btw. I just saw your sneakers when I linked from this page. ( :
hello shape ups dont work trust me t is proven!~
I have looked into these shape ups for a while, and when I was at physical therapy I noticed my nurse was wearing a pair. Nurses are on their feet for 12+ hours a day, so I asked her opinion on them. She has had them for 6 months and loves them. She is in her late 50s and doesn't do any exercising other than her normal rounds at the hospital and she said that after just one month, she has noticed firmness in her thighs, tightness and lifting of her buttocks, and comfort in daily tasks with less back pain. She also mentioned that another nurse as well as one of the Dr.s there have been wearing them. So, I purchased a pair. I am a Drill Sergeant in the military and I have knee problems as well as the the normal excess padding in the thigh and low hip area. So far, I love my Shape-ups and they are comfy! Looking forward to the increased firmness in my thighs and buttocks. I do, by the way, excersise mildly 2-4 times per week.
By the way, the nurse mentioned something about the design of these shoes being closely matched to the shoes that Polio patients used to be prescribed in order to help develop the muscle. If you are interested in more facts or information, that is one route to pursue (history).
I've heard tons of positive feedback about these shoes as a sales woman but must say DO NOT RUN IN THEM! I've heard about a woman breaking her ankle thanks to trying to run in them, she was warned... They do make trainers so you could do light running and jogging in them.
And if you have problems walking on the sides of your feet or have ankle problems the only ones you should consider would be the all-terrain as the normal ones will let your ankle turn to much.
If the author reads this I hope you'd consider putting this info into your article :)
I've worn my Shape Up for about 4 months with no problems. However, I started again on the treadmill and all was fine for the first three weeks. Now I've developed blisters on the back of my heel. I have the treadmill on a slight incline, does that make a difference? Has anyone else developed heel blisters after several months of usage? I have two pair of Shape Ups and there appear to be quite a different in heel padding. I can attest that Shape Ups are not for running because I took a really hard fall trying to run after a ball in the outfield while playing with my granddaughter.
2 weeks ago I tried a pair of shape-ups. I must admit I was very sceptical about all the wonderful things a pair of shoes could do. Anyway I tried the shoes on and WOW I couldn't take them off. After paying the shop attendant a huge $229 I stepped out of the shop and promptly walked around the Mountain. I have only had them off to sleep. I am on my feet all day so appreciate walking on a cloud. Magically I have not had a back pain since wearing them. Must be down to putting one's posture in the correct position. I would buy another paid tomorrow.
I LOVE MY SHAPE-UPS! I've had my shoes since last November. I'm a teacher and I wore them all year long (not too fashionable, but that's not what I was going for). By March, I noticed that all my pants seemed to be getting looser in the "seat" area. I've lost about 7 pounds but I've had to buy a smaller sized pants. I've recommended these shoes to many friends who also love them. One friend, who has needed to wear shoe prosthetics for plantar fasciitis, no longer needs to wear them. They are great and even after almost 9 months, I still "feel the burn" after a workout. Give them a chance. As someone said, they're cheaper than the gym!
OOps, I meant shoe insets, not prosthetics.
Shape ups are the worst shoe i have ever bought they
HURT my feet so bad it took three days to get to normal
and made my lower back hurt alot. They are made like
crap the back heel caved in.I WANT MY $ BACK !!!
tHREE OF US LADIES BOUGHT SHAPE-UPS. i TRIED TO GET WIDE BUT TO NO AVVAIL. aNYWAY, i AM THE ONE WHO WEARS THEM PRETTY MUCH REGULARLY, AND i STAND ON MY FEET 3 DAYS A WEEK. i FOUND THAT MY ANKLES ROTATED IN. fUNNY ENOUGH, SO DID THE OTHER TWO. aRE WE DOING SOMETHING WRONG--STANDING, WALKING???i HAVE FOUND IF YOU ARE TO FAR FORWARED YOUR FEET WILL BURN SO YOU AUTOMATICALLY FIND YOURSELF MORE CENTERED. lET ME KNOW ABOUT THE ANKLES????? dON'T HAVE STEEL BUNS YET!
Hello,
So I'm a teen, and I'm debating on buying these shape-ups shoes... I'd probably be looking into buying the actual sketchers brand... I have terrible (I MEAN TERRIBLE) ankle problems.. I sprain them almost every week... So my doctor has recommended I begin balance excercises and look into a better shoe to go with my orthotics... Can i get some feed back about these shoes? I'm also in that phase where weight loss seems like the most important thing ever (can anyone relate to that?... my friends are either EXTREMELY petit or over weight... I'm the only average one so I want to stay like that) Could these be a wise purchase to look into?
Okay I will,
But everytime I've asked my doctor all they ever tell me is that I have very poor ankles and wearing any type of shoe will bother me... But i need to find a way to work on my balance. I've read a lot of reviews of this shoe and some people say it helps you work on you balance. So, I'm simply wondering is that true? Because I know i have my orthotics but even those don't help... So all my doctor suggests is that I try to find a way to work on balance skills... could this possibly help me? Any thoughts on this?
Hi Reuvera,
I am a 53 yr old man.
I just found out about these shape-ups and again, I am still kinda worried if it can affect me in a negative way.
Many comments seem positive but it's the negative ones that worry me and maje me undecided in going out and buying a pair. I do have a nice arch and I have hammer-toes...wonder if that would bother me by wearing these shoes?
I just found out from a different site that many users of these shape-ups have had painfuk bunions appear after few weeks of use. Makes me want to wait longer before spending close to $180 Can with tax.
bah..meant painful bunions hehe
They are Skechers Shape-ups and go for $149.99 Cdn before taxes.
If they were $70 or so, I'd buy them and try them out but being unsure and spending that much money...guess I will wait until I get more info.
Thanks Reuvera for your quick reply.
I just bought 2 pair on sale at Kohl's. The store couldn't tell me the difference between the original and the XF type of Shape-ups so I bought 1 of ea. and let them know I'd go home and figure out the difference by going on-line and would return one pair. I noticed lots of different names on the shoes. The variety of names referred to the various style/color of the shoes of which Kohl's carries quite a selection in the women's shoes at the store I was in.
Upon viewing the Skecher's website. it does talk about the Original, XF (women) XT Men. and the Work shoes, but not with the clarification I was looking for, so I simply called customer service at Skechers and found out that the Original are to give you the greatest results in the shaping, toning, etc. area and are for low-impact workouts. The XF-extended fitness are for higher impact workouts, ie jogging, gym workouts, etc. They have a lower profile and are more stable than the original, but the effect of toning is not as great. The XF can also be worn for longer periods of time. They are probably close to about a 1/2 in. shorter height. The work shoes have a different tread and are rated as non-slip toning shoes. I'm still deciding which pair I'll keep and haven't even tried them on yet. Your hub page has certainly helped me to evaluate the overall value of these shoes. Thnx
Just to let you know those shoes you put at bottom under "These are cute...NOT" - we discussed some of them in my Apparel Marketing class last year. They're not meant to wear but more to shock people or make them laugh. As one shoe lover to another, I thought I'd share that information with you. :)
great hub and thanks for sharing in hub page community
I bought a pair of Shape Ups this past Saturday. It was a great deal. I only paid 68.00 dollars for them at JCPenney... (no tax day, 15,00 off coupon and a 15% off coupon and they were on sale!).. I have blood reflux in my right leg due to two blood clots. Some nights I am actually screaming from pain. I decided to wear the Shape Ups to work and everywhere... guess what? No pain!!!!!! I haven't had to sleep with the compression stocking or take 2 vicodine to releave the pain. They are great for blood reflux in the legs.
I really enjoyed the quality information you offer to your visitors for this blog.I will bookmark your blog and have my children check up here often. This blog is valuvable for me.
I bought a pair of Shape ups (Black and pink) this past Saturday. I wore them every day since. Tonight, I did a work out (Hip hop dance class) and my feet were killing me through out the class. So much so that I had to dance on my toes and heels. I am unsure way the middle part of my foot was hurting so bad. Any advice???
I guess I will have to do just that. When I was at the store Academy, staff informed me that there was a "walking", "running", and "training" shape-ups. I specifically bought the Skechers Fitness Trainer shoe, cause they advised that I could do the dance classes.
Nonetheless, I am still enjoying them while walking. Will just need to get a new shoe to work out in. -Thanks ReuVera
Amazing blog, saved your site for hopes to see more!
Great hub! I have been wanting to try them but was unsure if I would like them. I like your honest advice at the end, very impressive. I love to walk and had recently gotten up to 2 miles a day but I felt like I needed something extra and this may be the answer to add a couple of days a week. Thanks again!
Wow! Thanks so much for this article! and you don't even get a discount!!! I've seen these sneakers for a while & have debated. I'm a little clumsy & have the flattest feet out there. I usually walk 2 miles 5-6 days a week. Mostly outdoors, but sometimes I hit the mall if it's too hot. I guess I could do like you said & just wear my regular walking shoes a couple times a week. Okay - decision to be made today!!
I just got a pair and so far I'm glad I did. Due to some herniated disks in my back I have a drop foot condition. The rocking shape of the shoe has changed my way of walking and reduced my limp. This has been the best help for this condition ever.
I was really excited to try these. I just got these 2 days ago b/c they were on sale for 79.99, and after wearing them for those 2 days, the back of my thighs have been sore ever since. I'm returning them today b/c the booklet thingy didn't say anything about leg soreness/pain for more than 1 day. I really wanted these to work!! I'm so disappointed. Im not even sure if these even work?? I've read reviews last night and ppl said that all tht really works is that it does improve ur posture. I really hope the store take them back b/c I don't want my moms money to go down the drain. Ill just get regular gym shoes.
I'm 13 by the way.
I just got back from trying to return these shoes. They wouldn't take them back!!! Ughhhh!! I have to try to scrub the bottom of the shoes (the little pink sole thingys) and then try to return them at another ladys foot locker store.
I lov these shoe, i bought 2 weeks ago , but it doesn't fit properly ,couse my foot is wide , i tried at home atleast i hour everyday, but it doesn't work.My shoe size is 8 1/2 ,iI tried 9 but that was big
THESE SHOES ARE A TOTAL DISASTER. THEY ARE HEAVY AND GIVE ME BACK PAIN. I WAS SILLY ENOUGH TO TRY THE DAMNED THINGS OUT AT THE GYM AND THEY CAUSED MY FEET TO CRAMP.
WHAT A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY. I THINK THE SLOGANS AND HYPE OF MARKETING WILL SELL THESE SHOES BUT BUYERS BEWARE.
I LOVE my Shape Ups. I'm a nurse and am on my feet all day. I developed plantar fascitis from wearing croc type shoes and got to the point that I could barely walk due to severe heel pain. Orthotics in my regualr shoes didn't help, but my Shape-ups have done away with my foot pain. I wear them constantly and from now on won't wear any other kind of shoe. i had to buy a second pair, as I've worn the first ones out. I never had the leg pain that is described in the booklet, but I also do martial arts. When I frist started wearing them, I found running was impossible in them, but I've been wearing the same pair for about 8 months now and I actually ran a mile in them for my karate class today with no problem. My feet felt wonderful and there was no aching in my legs or ankles. You can just feel the cushioning with every step. I just love these shoes.
Bought my ShapeUps in April. Couldn't get over how comfortable they were from day one. But after having pulled a secon d hamstring in less than 4 months, I would not recommend them. If all you do for excercise is walk, maybe. But in combination with other types of activities, I believe thatis where the problems with this type of shoe arises. I also play softball, and the quick sprints to bases is when I pulled my first hamstring ever. I rested, recovered. Went back to walking, first, then to softball and pulled the other hamstring. I do believe the shoes and their design were the cause. They were comfortable, and the most expensive shoes I've ever bought for walking. I'll NEVER wear them again.
I have had Shape Ups for 2 months now. They have been very comfortable and seem to really work. My only problem is that the sole is starting to seperate from the shoe. This is very disappointing for how much I paid for these shoes. I would have expected them to last longer than that. I do wear these shoes everyday.
Read all the reviews but did not see any comments on washing the shoes. I have had the white and pink mesh shape-ups since May and have tried wiping off with a little soap but they really are beginning to look like they need the washing machine. Skechers says not to put in washer but wondering if anyone has and they came out clean but not ruined.
Thanks for the link; I did follow the procedure to hand wash my mesh shoes, using Woolite and a little liquid bleach and they look so much better; just laid them out on patio in the sun to dry. Just wasn't quite sure about throwing them in the washing machine since the info that came w/my Skechers says not to; however, next time I think I will try in gentle cycle. Thanks again!
I saw your Skechers hub and had to add my thumbs up because I agree with you, I have a pair myself. I felt the same way, oh gosh, ugly shoes! But I walk alot so I thought it would be a perfect way to add a little more benefit. I LOVE THEM! At first it was strange and my legs got tired out fast which shows me that they really do work because honestly I can walk ALOT and my legs dont get tired. They are very comfortable and do work your muscles more. Alot of excellent info in your hub!
i just bought myself shape -ups ,wore then around the house the first 2 days they felt great, then i wore then today at work for 10 hrs ,,wow alittle to much, felted it in my legs and my toes are really sore .i wear ORTHOTICS and i was wondering if they could be woren in shape up.
I bought my walking shoes last august, in less than 2months,the metal ring that connects the velcro part snapped out! i returned it to the store where i bought it hoping they would do something about it. Well, they they're going to call me after 1-2weeks(?!?)...
It is more expensive than my medical shoes (relieved my plantar facitis/heel spur) but good for walking since the inner part is comfortable..it was quite straining to walk especially uphill but it helped me since i need to walk alot going to my work.
I cannot say enough good things about sketchers shape ups. I recently went on a trip and was walking around 10 hours a day. they are super comfortable. I cant speak for the losing weight/toning up part. but as far as comfort goes these shoes are god send. They take a bit of getting used to, but they are great for walking and would be great if you had where you are on your feet all day.
Can you wear orthotics in shape ups??? I have heel spurs, bursitis, and plantar facitis in both feet. I work 8 hours a night on concrete. I am currently wearing Brooks shoes but they tend to wear out to quickly- for $100 shoes they don't last. Thinking about buying a pair of shape ups. I also overpronate when I walk. Any suggestions on which Shape ups would work for me???
I have 2 pairs of these shoes and wear them at work. Im a nurse and so do 8-10 hour shifts on concrete hospital floors and am often on my feet for the majority of the shift.
I also get severe 'shin splints' due to abnormal foot biomechanics, not from running.
I got my shoes about 3 months ago and have not had shin pain once since wearing them!!! Until yesterday when I decided to test them and wear other shoes to work...not the greatest idea ever because now today I have very sore shins...but at least I can say for sure that my Shape-Ups work!
I can recommend them for anyone who has shin pain! Once you start wearing them you wont go back to normal shoes!!!
omg, these shoes rock. i bought them back in march, didnt really get anything out of the, except comfort, so i qiut wearing them. they come with this instructional dvd and i thought who needs to learn how to wear shoes!?! well after a few months i came across the dvd and was board so i put it in, well it also has a 15 and 30 min. work out on it. and boy does it kick your butt!!!!! needless to say i have just about worn out my shape-ups, by wearing them every night to work, in my pull over barn boots. getting a new pair asap. and to add to my note, i lost 5 inches off each of my thighs from doing the work outs on the dvd:) cant wait for my new ones. oh and i have minor back problems so whenever i wear a regular pair of tennis shoe in my boots my back kills half way though my 4 hour shift at work! if you get the shape-ups DO THE WORK OUTS THEY REALLY WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought a pair of the tone ups 4 months ago. I cannot wear them. I wore them 3 months continuously at work, where I am on my feet most of the day. I loved them. BUT, both my feet started hurting. Across the arch of both feet. It's messed up my balance. I am only really comfortable in my 2" heeled cowboy boots, which I usually only wore 2-4 times a month. The shoes are the only thing different, so I am assuming it's them. Heat doesn't help and it's very frustrating because I need to exercise for my Air Guard job.
Does anybody know if Shape-Ups are suitable to wear for Aerobics and Step classes?
Just an FYI they now make shape ups in steel toe!!!! Now I'll be gatting a pair for work
Hi !
I just bought a pair of the black " Mary Jane" style at Costco for 49.00$!!!! I have wanted to try them and at that price... So, I had a torn ACL last year and still have a weak hamstring. I have wore the shoe for the 15min work out and for a 2 mile walk and a walk around while shopping. I am sore in places I did not know I wasn't using on the treadmill. I Love them and plan to get the sport style.
I am a stay at home mom for 3 small children so I am busy cleaning all day. I was wondering which brand of shape up would work best for me to wear while cleaning.(my house is all hardwood and no carpet if that makes a difference)
ReuVera, great writeup. I did some online research and I noticed a lot of negative reviews about the negative effects of the Shape Ups (back pain, joint issues, etc). I am wondering if this is from some of Skechers' competition who is purposely spreading bad info on the shoes? The people above who complained all write in the same style...seems fishy.
I also am curious if anyone on here has read "Born to Run"....I hear it's a great read about 10,000 years of walking with no special shoe needed for comfort. Anyhow, bought my Shape-ups yesterday....hope it helps with the plantar fasciitis!
Hi! Great read.
I just bought mine yesterday but I think I may have bought a size too big. They feel real comfortable and
I usually can't stand shoes in the beginning (including tennis shoes)but these felt great.
Just a little unstable due to the fact that they are a bit big.
I can't wait to start walking around with them. I am returning the pair I got today and getting a smaller size to see if I feel a difference but all in all, I'm pretty happy with the shoe thus far. I will let you know how I feel after Saturday since I will be walking with them in a park on nature trails .... Hope I am able to walk the next day!
nice, i really want to buy these now
I see a number of commuters wearing these every day - even men in work suits!
These shoes caused me severe back pain after 3 days of wearing to work (a desk job). I am still in pain a month later. And I never had back pain before!! Do not buy these shoes. It's not worth the risk this might happen to you. My spring golf vacation is now ruined.
I walk my dog, Lexi, for 45 minutes per day. Sketchers sound like they'd be great. Are they hard to balance in while walking. Lexi is a big 120 pound lab and she can pull quite a bit on her leash (we're working on it!)...anyhow, will I be in danger of falling?
I bought this shoes last summer and really did not use it very much. The balancing part was not a problem and they are very comfortable. However, I walked on them today for about 2 miles and felt a little nauseated. Anyone had similar experience?
Thank you,
I have a disability (muscular dystrophy) and really want to try these shoes, does anyone that has a disability worn these shoes yet? And if so what were your experience with them?
I recently bought Skecher shape up sandals as am living in hot country, sneakers not appropriate. The thin straps are hurting my feet, wondering if others encounter such. Not happy buying such expensive sandals yet it's causing my blisters!
I have reebok easytone sneakers before (still do) and I lost weight and shaped better after wearing them. I trust Reebok better than Skechers when it comes to comfortable durable footwear!
I bought my sketcher shape ups from costco for 50.00..the reason i did was i wanted to try them and knew i could return them if needed..but i did not i like them alot...i have been fighting bone spurs in my heels for two years, and taking naproxen for the swelling..i am on my feet all day and my feet hurt so bad that i am hardly able to walk by the end of the day more like afternoon.. well i wear my shapeups to work and it comforts my knees and legs and i dont feel my bone spurs anymore....so i love these shoes not diappointed at all..
so now i take less medication for pain. and im not lyeing in bed in pain anymore..and i can walk and go to the gym.....i would not wear these in any gym classes you will be clumsy in them i tried trust me dont do it..so i have other shoes for that purpose..but you can go on the treadmill with them as long as you dont run.. walking fast is okay and moving the treadmill to up hill is great....when i walk anywhere i can feel it in my rear legs calfs....i really love these shoes....i would def..buy again...maybe costco will have the sandels for me too.. i will have to keep my eyes open for that one...
I just bought a pair of shape-ups last week and have worn them every day, all day, played tennis, and walked in them. I feel fine.
I alternate between these and regular walking/running shoes but that's just for even wear and muscle memory.
I waited cuz I wanted the price to come down, paid $39.99. I'm happy and enjoy the extra cushion for shock absorption.
All shoes take some getting used to. I wouldn't be too worried about a little soreness, unless you are a fanatical exerciser in top shape.
they work
I just got my first pair of Shape-ups yesterday. I work in an ER and am constantly on the move. From the moment I put them on, I felt my calves, butt and lower back getting a well needed workout. They are very comfortable too I might add! I also felt like I was walking taller (not because of the added height), but that my shoulders were more square and my back was actually straight. I love my shape-ups!
i just bought a pair of Dr. Scholl's Personal Trainers with a rocker bottom that look just like the pics above of the Shape-ups. I must say they were daunting when I first put them on, but I just came back from a 30 minute walk, which included hills, and they felt fantastic. My posture's not bad, but I could definitely see an improvement as I passed windows. I love the idea that continuously managing balance will strengthen and tone. Makes sense to me. Also, by the time I got back from my walk I didn't feel as if the bottom was curved anymore. It felt almost normal. I did do a bit of jogging, too, and experienced no ill effects except that my normal distance was a little harder to do. Which I like!
Dr Scholl's are only $30 at Walmarts and I got these on sale for $15. There's no leather in the design so that may affect the cost some, but why pay almost $100 or $200 for a new innovative design when you can get them for a third of that? Plus, Dr Scholls' has a gel insole and are some of the most comfortable athletic shoes I've ever worn (and I go thru a pair a year).
thks for your info! I just start wearing them 3rd of days and my muscles hurt so bad almost about quit wearing them but now im gonna still wearing my shape ups thx a lot :)

I understand that you are a consumer of Sketchers and may have nothing to gain from promoting them, but do you really think you are benefiting others? MTB shoes were designed for people with orthopaedic injuries and problems, not for healthy people. There is a reason we don't naturally roll on our feet. If something is not broken, then there is no reason to 'fix it'. It's the same idea with athletes involved in jumping sports using ankle braces. They attempt to stabilize the ankle, and in doing so create more knee injuries because the knee is trying to make up the movement the ankle is being denied of. There are different muscles being activated while wear Shape Ups because the foot is not being allowed to act as it naturally should. Ever notice how when you step down your foot pronates (your arch turns into the ground) while in socks or bare feet? That's supposed to happen! When you stabilize the foot (like in Shape Ups), the ankle tries to become more mobile. Yes, the ankle is built to be mobile, but not to the extent Shape Ups promote. When there is excessive movement in the ankle, the knee will try to be more stable (there is more activation of the muscles around the knee to decrease movement), the hips will become more mobile (which also leads to more muscles being activated), and the chain continues up the back, through your shoulders, to you head and hands. Thus, when you affect something as small as the mobility of the foot, you affect everything in your body. Also, there have been studies done that have proven Shape Ups do not add any added benefits (in terms of intensity) to your work outs. You do not work harder, it just seems like you do. This shoe weakens the muscles in the feet because it's not allowing it to move. In my opinion, messing with your feet (which creates the base of locomotion) is the last thing to do when you want to become healthier.
Just bought them and had a great workout at the gym, I felt that I worked harder because of the shoes. They really get you to work on every step you take!! Today my muscles are a little sore in my calf area which tells me that my shape ups work!!! Im gonna continue wearing them during my workouts.
I just bought a pair yesterday. I am a flip flop wearing woman. Always have been. But, lately, I have been feeling the pain in my heels. I believe due to the wearing down of the heel on my flip flops. I also wore my flip flops using the wii balance board. NOT! I wore the new shoes yesterday for about 30 minutes. The biggest thing I noticed was the amount of pressure taken off my heels. What a wonderful feeling. I am on my feet a lot. I also am a shoe person, but, in my closet you will find tons of flip flops, only one pair of walking shoes. I bought them almost 3 years ago and could probably count on my fingers the number of times I wore them. So, here comes a new beginning. They do feel really comfortable and cushion feels great. Will let you know if I have to phase out the flip flops.
Shape up shoes do work. I've used Beebe Sports Glider shape and tone shoes for about 3 months and can definitely tell a difference in my thighs, butt, and mid section.
Just got my first pair of shape-ups. Can't exercise because of a heart condition. used to go to the gym 3X week. At 79 I still miss exercise. But I can walk. My balance is terrible though....and....with my new shape ups......I feel it is improving!!!!!!! And I feel my muscles just like I've been going to the gym! No, I didn't just wear them for 45 min. and then a little more.
From the second day, it's been all day long after the first day. They are great. I fFEEL them working!
I have one pair of sketchers and they're really good.Interesting hub!
Thought they were great too but with constant use I have developed tendonitis - so please be careful
I just bought a pair like 3 days ago...maybe 4....and so far I love them I wanted to start walking to tone up and lose a bit of weight and thankfully a lot of stores are starting to put them on clearance and got mine for like $37 and some change.....I definitely feel it when I walk and Im just starting off walking an hour before work 3 days a week, but definitely feel the aches of when u know the working out is working....but disappointed to hear on some of these review sites for em that I'll probably have to buy another pair in the least 4 months or maybe a bit longer cuz they eventually wear out and can hurt u. I just hope they keep on working and really help me with the losing a bit of weight and toning.
I was never interested in Shape Ups before and had no desire to ever try a pair on. I would see them in shoe stores and was quick to dismiss them. Until...
I just went to the beach for the first time since I was 12, I am now 22. I walked miles on the beach. When I got home yesterday, I glanced at myself quickly in the mirror and stopped... I've always been fit and always had a decently round bum but I noticed how much more round and toned everything was. I was actually amazed! So this caused me to go online and do a little research. Yes, I learned the benefits of walk. After seeing how just 4 days on the sand made me look, I am now interested in purchasing a pair!
*Yes I learned the benefits of walking in sand. Then low and behold it told me for those who don't have constant access to the beach to wear Shape Ups!
Just back with some injuries from a ski trip. Ankle and knee sore Just happened to buy a pair of these and could not believe how comfortable they were and easy on the sore bits.
I love them.
Down side a bit clumpy.
However I feel great and the pain in my ankle was not as evident it was a pleasure to walk in them. : )
These are cute.....NOT

They must be very comfortable. Are they available for men? I would by to try.
